Madelyn Nguyen, O.D.

Dr. Phuong Dung Nguyen is a therapeutic optometrist and certified Optometric Glaucoma Specialist. She holds a Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology, which she received with honors.

Dr. Nguyen’s clinical training at the University Eye Institute (UEI) included rotations in the sub-specialties of low vision, pediatrics vision care, contact lenses, glaucoma treatment, and ocular diagnosis and management. While at UEI, Dr. Nguyen received specialty training in Special Needs Adult and Pediatric Services (SNAPS), focusing on kids and adults with Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, or persons with developmental delays. Dr. Nguyen also completed specialty training with Dr. Rosa Tang in the Multiple Sclerosis Eye Clinic, managing the ocular health of patients with multiple sclerosis and autoimmune conditions. Her special fields of interest include pediatrics, fitting multifocal contact lenses, and cataract and refractive surgery co-management.

As a volunteer with See to Succeed, a program that provides glasses for children in need, Dr. Nguyen provides comprehensive vision and ocular exams for children in low-income families.

Practicing since 2014, Dr. Nguyen became an optometrist because she believes in the importance of sight. Although not everyone’s vision can be corrected to 20/20, she does her best to help enhance her patient’s quality of life by listening to their visual needs and goals. She enjoys interacting with patients, getting to know them as individuals, and helping her patients understand more about their ocular health. As a past LASIK patient, she can walk her patients through every step of the process.
